So I came up with the idea of adding a mining station to the DS universe. One of my clan members thought it could have 12 mining beams or something but have a tiny PD armament(say 4 heavy lasers and only 2 can fire on one side) and only 2 qst's. It could take the place of the extractor in a sense, but with the sacrifice of quick resources early on.

Maybe if not spawnable(for example in scenario), it would not take resources, but take half an hour to an hour to fly one in from wherever, and be able to go to the gate and get it after said time. It would be do-able, and perhaps could be an addition to the tier system.

Extractor is a free ship and station is the most expensive in game. We need dozens of mines & factories & starports in order to build a mining station.

Remember, you pick mining ship when there is not enough resource. Here, it cost you a lot of time to get full resource to build this kind of station and even if you store such ship in your garage, it still costs as expensively as a new destroyer when you transfer it from old SY to new SY.

And don't forget, there will be tier II and tier II extractor if people are too thirsty of resource. Where is a chance for mining station whose jump cooldown is more than 2 minutes?

TL;DR: mining station never comes to game.

Yes! It's unbelievable!

To be honest, would this mining station have a chance to be in game, will you ever give it enhancement and keep in garage as a usual ship?

And can you hint any circumstances that we may pick this one instead of extractor?

Please restate query: Error in logic

He's stating that it would be pointless to create such a station because
- Nobody would risk something that expensive to lose (in pres) and for so little functionality
- It's too vulnerable, and impractical
- Extractors would get the job done not too much slower and for far less risk

Something like this could work perhaps if there was a more complex economy, or perhaps even a free market thing like Jumpgate or Elite where resources could be traded for credits. But resources are a dime a dozen in DS, so there is no gain in mining for resources with a huge ass station, and then getting it blown to pieces by 3 decloaking Kluth dreads... losing a lot of pres, and maybe 2 hours worth of resources in one big fireball.

1. Perhaps the prestige loss could be that of a destroyer or cruiser, given it could take no resources to build.

2. I really reffered to the station being used in scenario, where not very many people play. Yeah what you said applies to the MV, but be realistic; how often do you find 3 kluth dreads in scenario.

3. The whole purpose of the mining station would be to speed up the job of the extractor.

I don't want this to just pop up in the MV all of a sudden, i want people to at least test it in beta if the idea does pass.

A station with no resources need? even if its jsut a minign station, its rpetty much game breaking, let sall just pull out mining stations and mines 20 dreads per second. yea no thanks

Same as above, would be too much game breaking even for scen. how often youd find 3+ dread in scen if we had those minign stations? like all the time

Renderign the extractor totally pointless since your stations takes no res to spawn, and is more armored. and can outmine the extractor like 20 times.
if you want to speed up the job of extractor, get more extractor, we dont want a ship that can do the whole job on its own, its a team based game, work as a team stop trying to do everything solo

Did you know you can build mining planets?
if you build like 2 of them fast, you will have no lack of resources later on.
if you want to make sure the ai doesnt mess with the res on your miningplanets, disable the starport and use it yourself manualy.

Also you can store res in your jumpgate for the next scenario, but im not sure if thats aginst the rules and possible anymore.

Pretty much this. Just practice building and you'll be able to get a couple mining planets up and running in 1/2 hour or so while someone else works on a SY.

A mining plat, like someone mentioned would be more practical. Yes, none of us wants to do the menial and tedious tasks.

However a station is simply OP for scen. Basically an armored beast in a sea of frigates and scouts would mean that whoever gets the station running first will be winning the race to get dreads.

So a mining plat could be workable because it is vulnerable to attacks. Just make sure it doesn't have any PD or weaps.

Mining platform would be interesting. Not sure how hard it would be to get resources off the thing from a programming perspective though.

Perhaps have an order to unload its cargo bay onto the planet it is orbiting every 3-5 minutes?
