Or dont do anything about it and blame it on our connection and continue to lose players!

Caused by desynch. Just go into f2 and click on the elite icons and they will magically "appear". I agree it's annoying and needs to get fixed, but raging will never fix anything.

Desync.
Like brutality said, but better:
Go into f2, click on a friendly planet in a different system, cam to it,(press C key) and cam back. it forces you to resync and solves the invisible ship issue as well as many other problems.
Takes about 3 secs so you can even do it mid combat

If you remember Flash, this happened to me as well while you and I were in combat. You and another player were attacking my right side, and something was hammering my left side at the same time. No one was able to see what was attacking my left side, but something definately was. This is pretty common too. Sometimes you will just be sitting in orbit, and suddenly start taking MASSIVE damage. It's not just a desync either, because the AI around you don't react to the invisable ship either. The other day I was taking massive damage, surrounded by friendly AI in orbit of a planet. Couldn't see any ships, trying to go into F2 for it to show up, nothing. AI didn't react either. Another player said it was an Elite dread, but no one else was able to see it.

I had something like this happen to me the other day. I was sitting near Fargo Rock and I was takeing damage from the port side and I had 4 other players and 6 AI hanging around and no one saw what it was. Another player that logged on dureing this said it was a UGTO destroyer, and he destroyed it. No one else saw it till the COMM message saying it was destroyed popped up.

This sounds like the issue with missiles/fighters not being rendered when too much stuff is flying around at once, they can't be seen no matter how many scanners and ECCM are running, and can't be PDed.
If entire ships are having this happen then yes there's definitely a deeper problem.

may also be an issue with how the server handles updating of ship positions, especially when they are out of the "focus" range (usually 5000 gu)
the updating slows down, and over time it causes problems lke these.
keep this in check by shipyarding regularly (every 30-45 minutes)

Desync....?
Well months back when they changed the way the server sends out data, desyncing should never really happen,. UNLESS, your having routing issues or bla bla bla.. You may find that the rate of these updates through UPD may need an increasing in speed.
But hell i've got no clue. but i know everythiing.
RIght now, time for bed
Penetration.,. oh, wrong forum xo

I've added this to my list of bugs to look into ... Thanks for the information on how to fix the issue, since that gives me an idea of what I need to do to resolve this issue.
If this issue happens again, please grab the client.log file from the directory and email it to support@palestar.com noting this forum post.
Thanks
