Hi guys im planning on trying out ICC for a while. Advice on these subjects would be apprciated.
-What is better, heavy cruiser, border cruiser, or strike cruiser?
-Which is bettter, railgun or gauss?
-What is the best for defense, active shields or reactive shields?
-Whats is the best ship class?
-What is the best strategy?
-What faction r they best against?
-Are their missle ships worth it?
-Is a combination of gauss and railguns good or just one or the other?

I've tried out a strike cruiser in beta vs a friend piloting a luth scale, i won pretty well. I really hope that that is a sign of how good icc is. I've faced ICC before and they were really tough, That is what prompted me to try it out.

Please give me some tips so i dont go in blind.

i think someone somewhere and of some decent reputation said sometime that there is no single best thing. everything has its own merits and demerits and favourable situations to be used in.

with a bit of luck, the message will get into everyones mind permanently.

and for your queries, i suggest you take a look through the Tactics and New Players forum. many reputable and skilled icc pilots have published collections of their tricks on how to make ships work better than they do normally.

For the cruisers you listed above, it really depends on your play style and the situation. The strike cruiser is good against slow moving targets like dreads and stats, i wouldnt try to dogfight with it because most of its weapons are forward facing. The heavy cruiser and border cruiser are pretty similar if you setup the sheilds on the bc a certain way. The Bc is the most manuverable cruiser on the battlefield and usually i run because i run out of ammo, not becuase im hulled. The heavy cruiser is prob best if your trying to get the hang of icc, so i would stick to that first. This current patch i would use rails because they do more damage and use less energy than gauss. Our best ship class would be cruisers i believe only missle ship i relly like to fly these days is the support station. The md just doesnt have enough close range weapons for me personally if the luth show up or u get point jumped. This was just my personal opinon on most of this stuff, but if you have any questions ingame feel free to ask around and im sure a good icc player can give you some answers.

it really depends on what you prefer to do. i hardly ever use a station because im not in to just siting still i like to be upfront and in the trenches like most of everyone else.

when im just on dassy because all you can do is just go around and try to hurt some one with out getting yourself killed.

when with 3 or 4 maybe a dread most likely a HC

when there are 5-7 people dread

i mostly like to try hit and run or come in with a big fleet and hope you kill everything before they kill you.

-What is better, heavy cruiser, border cruiser, or strike cruiser?

What Brutal said you should test which one suits you best, the hc is tough
and can shoot to the back while getting away, dodging and shooting at the same time, doing constant damage over time which is good vs UGTO Dreadnoughts.

-Which is bettter, railgun or gauss?

Usaly Railguns like mentioned, they also help vs cloaked Kluth blindfiring.
Gauss projectiles are very fast which is nice but on many ships you might need the energy they take away.

-What is the best for defense, active shields or reactive shields?

Usaly you go with active shields, atm reactives are not strong enough, on some ships you could try to use reactive shields on the sides, this will give you more energy in total.

-Whats is the best ship class?

Again depends on your playstyle, of course Dreadnoughts have more firepower but have slow reloading jumpdrives and are less fast and agile.

-What is the best strategy?

Depends on the enemy, generaly the best strategy is to stay together and jump together, cover each other, adept to the situation.

-What faction r they best against?

To keep it simple: Vs Kluth Assault Dreadnoughts are good.
VS UGTO missiles can be devestating or a pack of cruisers do good.
Maybe a pack of Combat Dreads too, but i never saw a squad of CDs.
Thats just my 50 cent though.

-Are their missle ships worth it?

Vs UGTO yes, the Missile Dreadnought is powerfull but squishy, in a defensive way its very strong, to use it offensive it needs distraction or enough cover. Smaller missile ships can give lots of pres vs UGTO, but again
depends on your play.

Most important thing on ICC is to get used to shield rotation, always keep an eye on your shield arcs and turn your shields with the numpad: 8 fore, 2 aft, 4 left, 6 right

----------------------------------------8---------------------------------------
--------------------------------------4 + 6----------------------------------
----------------------------------------2---------------------------------------

You can also rightclick on the shield you want to push.

Also keep an eye on your energy, most ships will go oom if you keep going at top speed.

Vs Kluth ECCM is important, it is like Sonar....

Welcome to ICC! Most things you can only learn by doing, but feel free to ask anything.

Pretty much what Brut said, however I have one thing to add. If u get on and its lonely on ICC, DO NOT SPAWN A DREAD; thats asking to get gang banged. In small numbers, ICC has to stick to their cruiser strengths. Only when we have a good amount of people on (5+) do we normally spawn dreads, they are too slow to put ICCs strengths into action without support. Unlike UGTO or kluth that can just spawn EADs and Siphons/mandys whenever they want, ICC has to use their speed and agility to win most of its fights.

P.S. The ONLY situation that is good for a MD is one with a dictor guarding you. Without it u are a sitting duck begging to get point jumped. If u want a good pvp missle ship, the MC (missles cruiser) is they way to go. Its faster JD (compared to dreads, which is what everyone uses anyways) gives it the ability to point jump away from a point jump, allowing u to fire missles at the intended target while their slow JD is charging.

ICC has the best reasons to fly small ships. i suggest u start flying the firgates to get used to the range and shields.

missle frigate awesome, even in its nurfed state
assault frigate
sensor frigate

next step, the infamous combat destroyer
also infamous, the escort carrier destroyer aka guppy

next step, the uber cruisers
heavy cruiser is the core icc ship, and fleet should have some.
border cruiser prvides higher survivabilty at the cost of firepower compared to hvy cruiser
strike cruiser i dont like, very very narrow firing angle. when turning and dodging, u will see that per minute the ships with broader firing archs do more damage. its used to have a purpose when it had more core weapons.
assault cruiser, very effective against luth

Only advice I'll give is there's a good reason most ICC who know what they're doing use Cruisers more than anything else. HC is the easiest to work with, BC takes a lot of micromanaging to be effective. Anything else you'd be best figuring it out for yourself, you'll learn more that way.

my outake...

-What is better, heavy cruiser, border cruiser, or strike cruiser?
*Border Cruiser. Swap all those gauss for rail, and get one of the FTL to help you set up your shields. I usualy say this ship is reserved for those who master ICC... but i believe it will make you master ICC faster if you use it. As for it having less firepower than a HC, it more than makes up for it in its ability to stay in the fight longer.

-Which is bettter, railgun or gauss?
*Rail. Gauss do less damage. Less shots per volly, and take way more energy. In beta though, they become a viable anti small ship weapon due to their incresed projectile speed. A few things Gauss do do though; They have the most damage per projectile. They have the most range. They have the most ammo.

-What is the best for defense, active shields or reactive shields?
*best for defense is active shields. Reactive shields are good for trickery, deception, and demoralization.... and i probably should not have said that..

-Whats is the best ship class?
*best ship class for??? Each class has a job. A good icc fleet cannot consist of a single class of ship. Also, Each of ICC's ship clases work best in pairs.

-What is the best strategy?
*Find a wingman. Never fight anyone at under 400gu if you can help it.
Volly fire. Ask a FTL member to assist you with volly fire.

-What faction r they best against?
*Most off ICC's ships are geared tword fighting UGTO. Against kluth, we have only a few realy good options.

-Are their missle ships worth it?
Every missile ship from Frigate to station has a job. Most of those jobs intail a diversified fleet consisting of many support, assault, and defense ships Vs UGTO either defending, or attacking a stronghold where you know what direction the enemy will come from.

-Is a combination of gauss and railguns good or just one or the other?
*well... it looks pretty... After beta releases.. a combination of gauss and rail will be devistating to any elusive enemy.
