Hey everyone, I know its been a long time since I've been around, been extremely busy with life as of lately. Considering i'm usually on the go I was wondering if anyone has attempted the game on a Touch Screen UI? Just a thought, may be seeing you guy ingame again soon.

The game has been around for a decade, if you think of it it's pretty much been thought of before.

That said, I really don't think something like this would be feasable. The game requires alot of keyboard/mouse to be translated well over to touch screen. Not to mention the buttloads of coding that would be needed for it.

???????

Isn't the touchscreen driver just a pointing device? If that is the case you can certainly use it with DarkSpace, in the same way that you can also use a laptop mouse pad to play DarkSpace.

What he said ^. The touch screen acts pretty much just like a mouse would. No extra coding needed...

I had a good look into this about a year ago.

The sacrifice you make in paying for a touch screen unit vs what you lose in potential high performance hardware is not worth the sacrifice imo.

You can find yourself paying $3000-4000 for a pc that performs at barely half the rate of one for half the price.

Spend the extra money on a huge 3D monitor imo. The game looks great in 3D. Tho the menus need work .........

Touchscreens have never been hugely successful because spending hours holding your arm up to touch a screen is really tiring, and you have issues like your arm obscuring the screen.

Of course, nowadays there's iPads and such which work a lot better because you can pick them up and sit them in your lap and such.

So sure, you could probably use a touchscreen for DS with the right drivers.

Assuming you can fly your ship without a keyboard.

Want touch screen?

Just play DS on a tablet laptop.

Touch screen.

It is possible as i tried it.
The entire DS game can be played by mouse So unless you happen to have the skills of using five fingers at once on the screen. a form of external ship controler is needed. (Controler, WASD pad or a keyboard)

I tried it with a WASD pad and a 17 inch tft multi touchscreen.
you are going to miss some keys like K,O,enter but you won't use them as much, plus they are available as On-screen buttons.
Had to re-arrange the desk to get the touchscreen closer to me to touch it as well as sit comfortably lazy. secondly i angled the display back a bit so that you can see what ever you are pressing.

All in all my evaluation is that it sucks. the biggest obstacle is the camera panning and rotating. Second is difference between right and left click. it is a mess when trying to do the simple jobs as looking behind you while you have something targeted, you lose the target. if you want a third then it would be the longer you use it, the more tired your arm gets and eventually you will be sitting in a darn uncomfortable position as you still want to see the screen without your arm in the way..

Touchscreen? not without changing some of the control mechanics. If only the game was a pure shooter then yes it could be possible. but as long as there is a tactical element i would not want it, as it would mean you will lost a lot of your situation awareness..
