Hi,
I have an idea....Make the Pirate Faction a Player faction and turn ICC into an AI faction. As it is, current ICC players are always unhappy and rarely play DS...but, I believe if players could be a Space Pirate it would add and keep players playing...ICC has a feeling of inadequacy and redundance, Pirates give one a feeling of excitement and adventure.
what do you think?...please reply. [ This Message was edited by: Shigernafy on 2011-11-14 20:13 ]

Why not just balance them to be suitable for a player faction?
Then we can have 4 [ This Message was edited by: Fluttershy on 2011-11-04 16:10 ]

i agree with this idea better, but bladerunner, your idea is good too but icc (might) be missed and they have an advantage that other factions dont have like range and rotatable shields (im not saying pirates dont have shields) so thats why i think icc should stick.

Trust me, you do NOT want to play pirates. For a player who likes to fly scouts, sure Pirates have some really cool ships. Most of their weapons are ICC, a few UGTO, a couple Kluth I think. Armor is shields (ICC) and a FEW ships with standard armor added. Their largest ship is the old ICC "Guppy" Carrier cruiser, refitted with Gauss guns and Rails. Even if the Devs put some time into the ships layouts, and added a Dread or two....Pirates would be weak. FAR weaker than any precieved weakness in ICC.
Play ICC, adapt or die. I've played both as and against Pirates. They are not a player faction, and likely never will be. MI have a better chance and would be a far better option, but even they would require a lot of work to make them a viable player faction.

Sit still and let a Raider (the basic Pirate Frigate) shoot at you a few times and see how much damage you take compared to what an ICC Assault Frigate would do. Now imagine if it was a player flying that and constantly shooting you instead of firing a few shots every now and then. Now imagine 5 or 6 players flying them.
And that's just the Frigates, there's a lot more Pirate ships that you don't see aside from during events when staff are using them. The best way to describe the Pirates is like luth that can't cloak but fire from longer range.
And I dunno Feral, I can think of a few players who would stomp people so bad using Pirate ships the rivers of tears that flowed when Sparrows were first introduced would look like nothing in comparison. Most Pirate ships may be glass cannons but if you're used to making the most out of ICC ships it won't take long to adapt. [ This Message was edited by: Talien on 2011-11-04 16:56 ]

Your title is deceptive and terrible.
This idea has been pitched over nine-thousand times. Why everyone thinks it's original is beyond me...
I have played as pirates, and trust me, they have terrible ships. The one time that the staff let a handful of players use pirate ships as an event prize, everyone of them whined about how terrible they are.
MI are closer to being a balanced playable faction, but also have some issues of their own. For now, both need to remain NPC factions.

make pirate human playable and talk like a pirate day dies.
MI is here to provide an ai challenge.
we got 3 very different factions to choose from, and always feel like we need more poeple online.
adding another playable faction in this game is not good.

Pirates are only supposed to have Scout to Destroyer, and two special Cruisers. They will not be made playable for the forseeable future, and they will not receive Dreads and Stations.

Don't pirates have a Nautilus station?

Yeah, but the Nautilus is almost not worth mentioning because it really IS a terrible ship with it's abysmal energy management.

I pirate faction wouldn't be much more than a novelty. Something to fool around with if your bored. Being a pirate is an entertaining excuse to say "YAAAR!!!!" and capture ships... repeatedly.

well if the devs added good ships and changed the fitting i guess it would be ok.
An sure everyone wants to be a space pirate once and again
but it imagine it would take a lot of outside collaberation with the devs to pull off something like that fairly quick.
