Ive noticed how turning off contacts can significantly increase Frame Rate but at the same time leaves you quite blind. My suggestion is to make a adjustment of how far away contact are show and what type of contacts are shown and how far away they are shown.
Ex.
Combat Screen:
Missle Contacts 0-2000 GU
Fighters 0-2000 GU
Ships 0-5000 GU
Navigations Screen Contacts:
Missles ON-OFF
Fighters ON-OFF
Ships ON-OFF
AI ON-OFF

This would allow players to adjust how contact are show and would also help players keep track of whats going on and where ships are. Sounds should still be played no matter what the setting is and a keyboard Shortcut made to turn all to max or revert to pre selected settings

Ok well I wasnt aware of that. Could a /command be added to set it to a actuall range. other then just randomly hitting the button without and confirmation of how much its effecting it?
or does one already exist? (that i cant seem to find in manual.

I don't know the exact rat. For working reference, assume one [ decreases range by 1000 gu, per tap. Also assume holding down [ decreases range by 1000, per second.

Or be specific on your needs by /focus'ing your perspective.

Were you targeting the enemy before decreasing range? If you target someone who's 20,000gu away, you'll also maintain targeting until it has moved out of range of all observers.

If the contact reticules are causing you FPS issues, then I don't know what to say. They're the simplest form of drawing - just 4 lines. If your GPU cannot render 4 lines, then you have bigger issues.

My bet is that you have issues with LOD. You'll need to go into setup and change the Graphic Effects to MEDIUM or LOW, as at HIGH we disable LOD (Level Of Detail), meaning at certain ranges the game assets won't lose detail; changing it to MEDIUM or LOW will return normal LOD functionality.
