Why smaller ships shouldn't be powerful is ... they're hard to hit because they're small and fast.
If they get weapons and power, they're extremely annoying and invincible in medium-long range battle.

So it should be balanced if smaller ships get slower speed and high damage weapons.

For example.
Assault Destroyer Heavy:
Speed: Same as Dread
Turning Rate: Same as Dread
JD Recharge Time: Same as Dread
Weapons: Same as Assault Cruiser
Armors/Shields: Normal Destroyer
Power: Same as Cruiser

Even with same speed as Dread, it's hard to hit because it's small.

Unfortunately, the way speed, turning rate, jd recharge, and to an extent armor/shields and power are set is by hull type. We can't tell an assault destroyer to have more power than a combat destroyer, which has a better turning radius than an escort destroyer, because those variables are determined based on the hull type and the engines mounted. To make it more flexible to allow what you're suggesting would require a complete rewrite of the basic way ships, and to a large extent all nouns in general, work.

I'd personally welcome the added flexibility, though it would potentially complicate things a bit too. But the effort required makes me think it is not terribly likely to happen.

I recommend increasing size of projectiles according to weapon levels. That should make it easier for the cute lil' dreads to hit the small baddie ships.

Weapon levelling is a system of making larger ship's weapons have an edge over smaller ship's weapons. Example - A v1.544 Beak frigate has two torpedoes, and the age-old v1.520 Piercer interdictor cruiser also has two torpedoes. By weapon levelling, the torpedoes of the piercer are, in comparison to the beak,
[list]
a) more damaging
b) longer ranged (removed as of 1.525~)
c) more energy-hungry
d) slow-charging
e) larger splash damage
f) lower in ammo

By removing weaps levelling, 2 dessies might have firepower equivalent to a single dread.... since all weaps are equal and larger ships carry a larger number of them.

Right now, the way I see it, smaller ships are way disadvantaged because they have less weapons, and each of those weaps are way less powerful.... nevermind their faster ROF.

We shd simply classify weapons by their tiers... ie. Disruptor & Assault Disruptor... IT missile & IT Missile Mk 2.

I've heard their faster RoF makes it have a higher damage over time. So small ships will win through will power, and big ships can slug each other fast and hard.
