reviewing screenies lately, and a few images and thoughts kept poping in my head, why arent the weapons hitting the hull of the ship instead of hitting 5 G.U away from the entire hull of the ship?

Easier to tell on which armor arc your ship is getting hit.

It's just reflecting a game mechanic.

well what im saying is that why dont the armor rings get rescaled to where they are like dead on the outline of the ship's exterior design?

Says the Devs once:

Making conformal hitbox would raise system overheads, as the system will have to calculate the shape of each individual ship. So they simplified things by calculating a radius around the center of the ship based on its size/mass.



But that still doesn't explain why my armor rings can go INTO the planets without my ship turning into yesterday's regurgitated dinner.....
