I just unlocked the missle cruiser, so i decided to try it. Problem is with the basic layout, my missles seem to be missing quite often.
Is this normal, and is the MC worth using? If so, what are some tips to use it?

Missiles have terrible tracking and are only reliable vs dreads and stations, and occasionally cruisers.

...LIES!!!. its all about firing angle.. unlike cannons and lasers the missiles dont make their own firing solution, you have to manually point your ship in the appropriate direction for maximum hits.. i can easily waste a destroyer speeding around on crack with my missle cruiser. It just takes practice, but yes it is true that missiles hit far more often the bigger the target is.

ehhh most missles currently fan out, so i don't know what you mean by firing angle.....
a dessie can fly into a cloud of missles with a curved path and make most overshoot by a little

Exaggerate much? Missile cruisers are terrible vs all but the worst destroyer pilots.

Have the missles ever been better in past versions?

Not really, they've sucked for a long time.

Way back in beta and for a time afterward they were good. Nice and accurate, but there weren't nearly as many as there are now.

Basically what Sparkles said. Missiles used to be deadly accurate on everything but the fastest ships, so point defense was important. Then they developed ships for each faction that focused on PD and made missiles absolutely terrible so v0v

Try shooting at actual players instead of AI, it's much different when the target is actually trying to dodge your fire.

Why did they nerd the missiles? It seems to take some of the range advantage away from Icc.

if you fire at ships, flying toward your direction, most missles miss (especially IT / Psi-missles)
if the enemy ship is flying away from you, missles often hit
the "fan out" is a fine thing to shoot around other objects (planets )

Most players gravitate towards the larger ships, so accuracy isn't really an issue. They're also adding new missiles. I haven't checked, but they might work well against small ships. I know Sparrows could hit them.
For now I'd just stick with the Missile Destroyers, though. At least until Cruisers are redone.
