Was thinking on how to make fleets a little more important in the game and I came up with this idea.

Remove all AI and allow fleets to purchase AI with Fleet Credits. The amount of credits a fleet has is dependnt on the amount of planets they hold.

So say FTL holds 10 planets but there all barrens and FS holds only 5 planets but there all terrans. FS will have more credits because terrans are worth something like 300k cr and barrens are just over 100k cr.

Fleets would be able to buy AI ships, like a they could buy a Combat Dreadnought for 1m cr or buy a Transport ship for 100k cr. New amounts of CR would be recalculated every 3 days. So your total pool can go down or up every 3 days depending on how aggressive your fleet is. These AI would be controlled only by the fleet. A limit would be needed so as to not overpopulate the servers with AI. Something like only 10 AI per a fleet are allowed maybe 8. Only fleet admins and then only fleet admins that are allowed by the fleet creator would be allowed to make this purchase. These players would be marked by a blue line on the fleet page instead of a green one.

There would be a special page on the site that showed a list of ships available, somewhere just under the Forum link on the fleet page. You then would be able to pick X ship and tell it on what server to spawn in (this would change when the servers become just 1 pool). When the ship is killed it is killed, it stays dead until another one can be ordered up. You can also put enh on it as well but at 3x the current credit rate or just make em expensive accordingly.

All of this would require that we can control AI again and give them orders. This would help solo fleeted players a lot as they could order there fleet AI to defend them or attack X planet. The number of fleet AI could decrease as player population increases so we don't overload the servers. The number could also scale as well, so when the faction is empty you get all 10, and when they faction has a lot of players you get only 3 as a minimum. Also AI stations would not be allowed to be bought as that would just be too much.

We've already discussed allowing players to purchase an AI wingman for credits that sticks with you till you or it dies or you log off.

Thats low on the priority list.
