When you engage the jump drive with Shift-J(E-jump) it shoud engage and keep going until it runs out of fuel. The 8 seconds you get currently will get you tracked down and killed most of the time(unless you're k'luth who just cloak at the end).
There's no reason for the drive to be capped at an 8 second jump for an e-jump as you can cancel the jump at any point with J. And we all know how cumbersome it is to F2, and ctrl click a point in deep space during battle.
Please make the e-jump more useful.

I think its fine as is, personally. Its a pretty good o-shi buttan. Its not meant to get you far far away from enemys.

Should be upped tho, like a 10 or 12 sec jump to get out farther from combat.

I agree with kenny. but just increase the jump time to 10+ secs and that should do the trick

Crap. I accidentally deleted my post. Doing this from my iPhone at the airport. Must've checked the wrong thing.
Anyway, what I said was...
If u jump till yer outta fuel, yer stranded at the end of the jump till a supp gets to you.
And if u get tracked down, then yer dead cos u won't be able to recharge the JD n escape a 2nd time.
Trust me. Nubs r the ones who will die more often if this is implemented.
Knowing the diff ship classes we cab guesstimate your max jump range n track u by continously hitting E in jump till we see u, then drop outta jump n call our teammates in on u.

E-Jump is, as the name implie... no, directly states, an emergency jump. It is not meant to be a get out of jail free card. You'll just have to deal with occasionally dying if you don't have an escape route planned before you get to critical hull levels.
Also, e-jumps are of a (pseudo)random duration of between 5 and 9 seconds. And I fail to see how moving it from 8 to 10 or 12 seconds would make a big difference -- players already often just track in a long line and then abort when you're noticed.. even if not, adjusting tracking jump lengths by +25% wouldn't be the hardest trick for anyone with any semblance of intelligence.

If you hit the side of the map, you'll just head in an arbitrary direction against the side.
