ok, so my friend was QQ about this, so he stopped playing (but that wasnt the only reason). he told me about those tiny numbers in the info box (when you target something and attack it) and hes like "why not a health bar? or even flying damage numbers?", and i agree with him, its hard to tell what you are doing to a ship if you have to look in and out of the target box every half second.
just saying, maybe you should add "health" bars on the HUD.

Health bars would just get in the way and become anoying. If its not broke dont mess with it

It could be useful though for "at a glance" telling whether someone's nearly dead or not.
Flying damage numbers wouldn't work though. There's a reason the exact damage from weaponry is kept a secret.

I agree with this idea. Though probably hopefully come when they redo the UI

I'd quite like a little planogram of the ship on an axis, bits going from green to red as your ship is progressively damaged in different area's and a large health bar underneath.

Did you and your friend turn off the armor rings? Those and the damge animations show you what you are saying you want...

not sure, but I think he means on a target enemy. I find it sometimes annoying to look down into the bottom right of my screen to figure out the Shield/Armour/Hull %
imo, we should have the Hull% after their name on the target diamon.
so like it says [=SI=]XRate{Heavy Metal} 100%
or something or the sorts.

Or have there name and then a bar underneath it that shows hull. Armor rings already show damage why not a bar for hull? Ya the damage animations are cool but a bar shows X left after the blue plume which is just an indication that there falling apart but not dead yet.

Armour and shielding are relative to the arc you're facing however.
75% armour is great and all, but if you're facing the arc with no armour on it, you're going to take hull damage (which looks odd with a health bar).

Now you are just cluttering up the display.

- Armour and shield status rings are now visible on all friendly ships all the time (can be disabled via the '/' key).

But he has an interesting idea.
In fact, I think that the targetted ship should also have a square box or bracket surrounding it like that on a fighter's HUD.
It would also be nice to have a translucent overhead radar display somewhere onscreen. Toggling F2 to have a tactical view in the heat of battle can be fatal. Having a radar would give you situational awareness at your fingertips.
Make these overlays toggleable of course. I'm sure it can be done via client-side processing.
