xFire In-Game [Aproved] |

I have managed to make xfire in-game work inside DarkSpace, without using anything else than a legit xfire and the game client, that means no third party injections or code modifies.
Admins or Devs might want to have a look at this, and if aproved, allow me to publish a guide on how to make it work, so everyone can enjoy the pleasures of xfire in-game (chat, recording, etc.)
Please contact me either via GCQL or PM, and if you are an Admin or Developer, i will gladly share my method.
[Didnt knew where to post this]
Navigate to your xfire directory (Default: C:\\Program files\xfire; Vista users will find it in .Program Data hidden directory)
Edit your xfire_games.ini with notepad
Paste this at the end of the file
[9999]
LongName=DarkSpace
ShortName=darkspace
LauncherDirDefault=%ProgramFiles%\Palestar\GameCQ\
LauncherExe=GCQL.exe
DetectExe=.Cache\Darkspace\DarkSpaceClient.exe
;PlayingDetectType=ByWindow
Launch=%UA_LAUNCHER_EXE_PATH% %UA_LAUNCHER_EXTRA_ARGS% %UA_LAUNCHER_NETWORK_ARGS%
InGameRenderer=D3D9
InGameFlags=USE_PRESENT|VALIDATE_USING_EXE_NAME|DISABLE_DIRECT_INPUT_HOOK|REINSTALL_KEYBOARD_HOOK|ENABLE_MOUSE
DetectServer=FALSE
RunElevated=1
Save, exit xfire, open it again.
Click on Tools -> Options -> Games
Find Darkspace in Uninstalled games
Click on Manual Setup -> Browse
Navigate to C:\Program files\Palestar\GameCQ
Click OK, OK.
NOTE: Launching the game via xfire will open GCQL.
Launch GCQL and join a server, xfire pop-up should appear after the game is loaded

xFire is just a chat system for games, just like allowing Vent or team speak use. It does not alter game data in anyway so not the same as cracking or modifying the game for an unfair advantage.
I suggest you review xFire's ULA to make sure its ok for you to make it work in other games than they intend. If there is no legal issue than you may post what you did so we can review it.
If it appears to work without degrading the game like other programs, I dont see a reason why not. If it impacts the game negatively or the ULA for xFire states its not permitted to port it into "other than approved" products, then we will have to nix the information.
edit - After review, it appears it would also market Darkspace to other users. As long as it does not damage the game, risk user data, and is allowed under xFire then we'll consider it. [ This Message was edited by: Tael on 2010-03-23 16:20 ]

I think, people already tried getting DS supported on xFire trough the official xFire Chanels, no luck so far.. but you might want to check the xFire DS people already present over there..

You can just add another entry for it [9999]. Other people will think you're playing Football Manager.

You might want to change the LauncherDirKey as well

hasnt worked in the past, at best it'll last till the next games list update, and its liable to mis-report at that point.

Thank you for your replies,
Yes I am aware of the fact that the next xfire update will overwrite the games.ini, but some players are itching for in-game support, and this ini config allows it.
However it has some bugs, for example i attempted to record a video and its all jittery and jumpy.
It does work perfectly with chat and voice, so works for me, also can be used to forcibly inject xfire into other directX games.
Perhaps by sharing this to the xfire devs they will add it to a future xfire release, but that has to be done by this game's Developers, or so I was told.
It would be very cool if this game would also make use of xFire's SDK for allowing xfire to fetch your player information, or in which server are you connected, but that might be too much to ask for.
