Thinking out loud.

How hard would it be to bring another faction into the ring. Or make an existing stupid AI faction playable.

ie. Pirates - give the humans access to SOME ships from each faction though not all

Subbed only players (No trial access). Cannot faction swap out for a week ...

As they be pirates no dreads but one station online at any one time... ie Nautilus ...

They aren't balanced to the other factions. A MI cruiser can seriously trouble if not destroy an unwary dread, and thats just as an AI ship.

I, too, feel that lots of mediocre content is much better than some good, balanced content.

Am being conceptual - not 'let's hand over the Pirate faction as is to the human player base.' Just a train of thought to be built upon - not crucified.

Had not actually thought of MI ships in the mix to be honest Delta - just sounds more alluring to me.

And to $yTHe {C?} If you weren't so pretty I almost would have thought you may have said something.

A long, long time ago,
There was once an idea.
To let pirate the pirate faction be playable to all and for free..
They just had to make it harder to be a pirate than any of the other existing three.

Pirates don't have rank, just accomplishments.. Badges would be the ship selection limits for them, Hench fort pirate ships require a insane level of badge requirements.

e.g. Bronze privateer for a Destroyer..

As long as the aforementioned looks good on paper, it must be a good idea.

Last I checked the Nautilus required Admiral rank, and only the Cruiser required a Privateer rank. Rest of the ships hardly required anything but the regular ranks of Lt Commander etc.

Regardless, the Nautilus is the only thing worth flying anyway, rest is just cannon fodder.

Nautilus? Is that the pirate station or dread?
And if either, why would the rest be cannon fodder?

Pirates have no Dreadnoughts. Draw your conclusion from there.

The rest of the ships are cannonfodder because they are ineffective compared to their UGTO/ICC/K'Luth counter-parts. (Well, except the Torpedo Raider, that thing owns harder than any Frigate could ever hope to)

From what I heard, The MI were ment to be a new faction, or the pirates, or both (can't remember) and probably are still ment to be....

But, there are alot of changes that need to be made, for one, the bugs currently existing - and any one that pops up between now and then - need to be fixed first... Then I believe there are other models for the MI and Pirates, so the Collada (sp?) support needs to be implemented - support for importing models - as the old model importer is broken....

Then another thing needs to happen... They need to be balanced, and this is crucial, I dunno if you all remember, but I had an event where if you win, you get to play as pirates for a week, I think it was 6 winners - and myself -
playing as Pirates for that time, now while I enjoyed the very chance of it, some of the others were QUITE dissapointed.... The pirate faction is weak, very weak offensivly and defensivly - the only good ship is the station and it sucked at the time, and now it is overpowered - and speaking of overpowered so are the MI (defensivly at least - they would need some changes aswell...

Then, and only then, one final thing is needed... PLAYERS!!!! The playerbase is too low even for more than two factions, it is spreading very thin, we need more players before we start splitting them even farther into the other factions...

Also, there is one faction you didn't mention, Teros... ( was I supposed to not know about them?? ) the mystery faction no one really knows about

I thought Teros were common knowledge; draf or shig mentioned them in lobby chat.

Anything about them? or just mentioned them themselves?

I should correct myself - I don't really know anything about them...

if you do know let me know I'm curious.

As I said in the chat, there isn't anything to them at the moment; they're just a name in the code. They were envisioned as another breakaway human factions, similar to the pirates ... but somehow different.

I don't think, honestly, that anything beyond that was done - no real back story, no ships, nothing. Its just a name in the list of factions, basically.
