Now that there is a cap to the number of platforms a faction can have in on a server (I think it's 30), I suggest that a method of decommissioning platforms be placed into the game. I believe that the only ways of getting rid of platforms currently is to either fire upon them (and incur ff penalties) or to tractor them into a nearby planet (fun, but sometimes a the platform isn't around a planet).

Platforms are invaluable during an offensive into enemy territory, especially if there are few players around, and it is frustrating when you get to the destination and figure out that an eager engineer had just built a bunch of platforms around a planet deep inside friendly territory. It would be helpful if one could remotely decommission platforms, like how one can scrap buildings.

Tractor Beam + planet.

Edit: Oh you mean remotely. My bad.

Problem is tractors don't pull or push anymore unless your ship is moving. you need to physcially grab the platform and go towards a planet with it.

2 votes for this me and *Nemesis*

and as Sopwith Camel said sometimes platforms arnt near any planets, but you do have the option to tractor jump platforms that arnt near planets closer to them (Drafs solution) buts thats a pain in the rear or you could wormhole them (another of Drafs). Why they wont incorparate this is because of platform farming, but if you had the option to scrap a platform with the knowing you are gonna loose the same amount of pres that it took to build it seems fairer to me

I agree with Sopwith, being that I was the eager engineer. There has to be a way to scrap them just like any other building can be scrapped. Scrapped, not towed, not tractored, teleported could work, or maybe a little magic. Yes or no.

Not an acceptable reply to a valid issue.

why not simply transport the platforms using tow beam instead of destroy especially if they fully loaded with resources ...

i know people are lazy ... but it's not that hard and gives some fun with 'caring' about the transport operations

and if the idea of improvement installs on platforms gets into game destroying already built platforms become even bigger waste ...

anyway i'm against simple scrapping ...
i would then prefer that rank locked platforms or platforms orbiting rank locked planets are 'scrapable' only by same/higher rank ...
also platform orbiting locked planet should be not 'towable' until you higher than lock rank (to prevent vandalism against e.g. crucial SY supply platform site)

And i'm against locking of planets as well as your idea for platforms.

It doesn't help people who want to learn and they go find every planet locked at a high rank and the way it is now it doesn't matter how you build the planets, no one takes the time and care to do any building they just farm pres with the AI's.

Planet locking should be removed and anyone who wants to should be able to modify the planets.
