///

It was a week like any other week: A dangerous week for the Farstars. The Lalande region had been plagued by bombing runs, revolutions and fights between starships for the past week.

"Patrol the Lalande region more!" cried some protesting people in Earth's streets. Truly, they weren't wrong. Not wrong in their thinking, at the very least. The UGTO's region of control had become secluded and limited: Consecutive attacks by both the ICC rebels and the K'luth refugees had pushed back the UGTO's reign of authority. The only systems that were firmly under UGTO's control were both Sol and Barnard's Star.
It wasn't odd that the protesting people in the streets desired more patrolling of the borders. The fight was getting too close to home, and while they had a treaty that no ship was to assault Earth, too many feared it wouldn't be respected.

Aye. The admiral in charge of the Battle Dreadnought "Zweihänder" knew this all too well. His men, too, held fear that the battle may someday be too close to Sol, too close to Earth, and they had all urged him to undertake the mission offered by the UGTO's upper command.

So here they were. The Bardiche flew solemnly, escorted by two Heavy Supply Ships. They had been escorting a Bomber Cruiser. There was also an Agincourt, but as the vice admiral in charge of the Agincourt was on his first mission, the admiral didn't expect much.
Where's "here", you ask? "Here" is in Lalande. The Battle Dreadnought had positioned itself a good 8,000gu away from Veger (and its moon, Ugio), where ICC refugees had hidden themselves. The original mission, to regain control of the Lalande region, had made the crew grow bold, and they had entered the fight many times. The outer layers of the ship were being fixed by the Supply Ships' repair drones, and the admiral sipped his tea.

It was the moment before they would go to battle. Two Cruisers had been identified. Confident in his ship's capabilities, the admiral thought he'd come out alright. Those Cruisers needed to be destroyed, after all. The Bomber Cruiser they had been escorting, in a daring attempt to regain a firm grip on the Lalande section had been destroyed as it attacked Demaret. The crew of the Bardiche could do nothing but gape in horror, unable to lend assistance. Nay, able to lend, but could not lend; The admiral deemed it foolishness to storm in, thinking to himself that the Cruiser could not be saved.

Indeed, it was a cruel decision, but the safety of his crew was most important to the admiral. But so he valued his crew, so he valued his allies, and so those Cruisers had to be punished.

There was a humming noise as the electronical door to the admiral's compartment opened.

"Admiral, sir, the repairs are done."

The admiral calmly set his cup back on its plate, leaning forward over his desk as he stared at his aide-de-camp. He was a young man. Had told the admiral he'd just gotten married. Definitely couldn't let his aide die.

"Very well," responded the admiral after a moment of tense silence. "The Agincourt...?"

"The Agincourt reports to be ready for battle as well, and is prepared to provide support to our ship."

The admiral raised himself from his chair, a faint grin on his face. He'd seen many battles. Had seen many people die. Everytime he went to battle, he couldn't help but wonder if it was finally to be his turn to die. With a nod to his aide, the admiral made his way to the bridge. His crew was already awaiting his command, and as he settled in his chair, the admiral couldn't help but feel both excited and anxious. His command could win or lose this battle. If the Bardiche were to fall, not only would he and his die, but the Agincourt and Supply Ships would lose their flagship.

"All hands," began the admiral, "Prepare for battle! Navigator, set course for Veger. Increase velocity to ten point zero. Prepare the fighters for launch, signal the other ships." The crew saluted, and began their work.

The Battle Dreadnought stormed into battle that day. It was a day like any other. People died that day, and the war would take many more lives in the following days.

Haha, I didn't try to unduly discredit anyone. What I wrote is simply my belief at the time; 'twas your first Agincourt, so I somewhat expected you to jump into the middle of the fight, thinking your pcannons were supreme or something.

If I somehow discredited you, I'm sorry. That wasn't my intention.

If you're online and in a battle I might be inspired to write about you.
