Has anyone had to use the CTRL + ALT + DELETE (aka the 3 finger salute) to end the game just to make things work after locking up in game?

Never had too, I just alt tab or Press the start key if I need to minimize though.

If my game ever locks up for an extended period of time, that means one thing:
- My computer locked-up, and I need to manually depower and repower it.
Period.
