i done some reaserch tonight on saving energy with the EAD. i found some interesting things. it requires use of some ICC technology, but it pays off in the end.
energy saving mod:
5 level 4 HCL's ( saves energy and has faster reload time)
all level 10 Fusion torpedoes (faster fire rate, lower energy, quicker projecticle)
2 level 10 Flux beams
rest level 8 Railguns
EDIT:
setup number 2:
5 level 5 HCL's
level 10 fusion torpedoes
level 7 Particle cannons
two level 10 Flux cannons in full mount cannon slot for point defense
two AME's and two PFE drives.
this second setup has slightly better energy reserves than the first mod, with more firepower.
if you use these mods, i can garuntee you if you run 10 gu or 11 gu /second in battle, the energy drain will be a LOT less than with all UGTO technology. if you just stick to cannons, and the F torps, you will have barely any energy drain on your ship. save the HCL's and QST for hull, as usual. and the old warning applies - NEVER fly your EAD alone.. EVER.

I do like this, EAD should be a long range weapon used to deter planet campers, or a short and sweet attack vessel, designed not to be in battle for more than 3 minutes.
Leonides option is the long range one, obviously with the railguns offering better firing range, and the HCL offering SOME ship to ship combat, or at least some PD, since the ship should have an escort.

The EAD is designed to be an insanely hard hitting, close-quarter combat ship. It is never, ever going to be turned into a long range battle platform - ever.
It's also desgined to stay in the battle as long as it can (more than three minutes). It's the most heavily armoured ship the humans poses, and is supposed to have the 'best' energy management system out of all the dreads. The reason for that energy management system is so it can support the insane energy requirement of UGTO weapons, as the EAD has to fit a lot of them along with rather heavy hitting QST's and HCL's (both of which are generaly flawed in design this version (but then again, what isn't?)).
Unfortunately, although this solution/guide does help the energy management, you're taking away from the EAD the one thing it lacks more than an energy management system (or it's (currently) terrible armour) - and that's fire-power. No matter what you do with the EAD, you're going to have to compromise in some area, and this is not something the UGTO do well. They're designed to be all-rounders, with the EAD being their "Ship of the Line" (best combat ship they're able to put into play for those that don't know).
No matter what you do to the EAD, it will never come close to the ship it's supposed to be this version. And that makes me very sad indeed.

not really smartin my EAD with 6 P cannons lvl 8, 4 Psi cannons lvl 8, Pulse beam lvl 10, and beacon lvl 10, 4 PFE lvl 10, AMJD lvl 10, 8 AM torps lvl 10, 3 aux gens lvl 2, 5 HCL lvl 10 is awsome i can get at least 5 QSTs out of it before i run out of energy

And Yes this version its crap, so why not use it in a completely differen't way than it was mean't to be used, otherwise it's not used at all

EAD is far too specialized to be a ship of the line. EAD more fits the description of its namesake - an assault ship.
Also yes, Jack pointed out what I was going to. You can cut down on energy but then you do horrible damage. HCLs do sod all damage and not worth the energy cost and railguns are just as pathetic.
In otherwords, using the EAD right now is pointless, when there is a far more useful ship, that better fits the description of a ship of the line, which would be the Battle Dreadnought.
If you want to lob QSTs, get a Battle Station.

i realize that point, and i have done further reaserch. apparently, when i install two AME drives and two PFE drives, i get more energy for my weapons with slightly more, if not the same acceleration as all IE drives. thustly, i have upgraded the HCL's to level 5 from level 4 and installed all level 7 Particle cannons with improved energy usage.
