Crystalline Entities
The most terrifying space entity is the crystalline entity. One of these creatures can lay waste to a planet. If these creatures are spotted near inhabited space, it is only a matter of time before lifeless planets are all that remain. Its crystal ray destroys population and structures alike. Reports have stated that the crystalline entity is capable of moving at over 200gu per second, although most physicists believe this to be impossible.

Yes, alot of oldies have probably seen one before...
Yes, they are also exactly as powerful as they sound.. or at least they used to be. They aren't anymore. HOWEVER, they were always prone to diving into planets.
Yeah, and that explosion HURTS. Or it used to anyways.
They move at superfast speed (like, jumpdrive speeds) And can turn like a scout. But no armor, only hull.
Theres also its brother, the Energy Entities, which are just as irritating. Well more irritating. They can drain all the energy within around 800gu in a matter of seconds. Also prone to running into planets. The wink out of existance rather than explode though.
You probably wont find them running around the MV, but if you do, they're mostly harmless.

I recall seeing these and the other NPC entities frequently a few years back but not anymore.

Crystalline Entities are a little more dangerious, due to their nice death beams.
You think MiRV's are strong? Hahahaha, you ain't seen a death beam then.

I saw one in .482...didn't know what it was so didn't dare to attack it=) but then some other players told me what they do, so i tried to intercept, but didn't reach it.
it crashed into a planet, didn't do any damage though

I remember a Crystalline Entity.
Let me bring you back a couple of versions..
During the time when I subbed, I was sitting around a recently captured planet, building it in my dinky little engineering ship. It was bombed a bit (Mind you, bombing was a lot harder in those days), so I was happily building it along.
All of a sudden, theirs that blip. The "Enemy in range" Blip. I click it and the camera focuses on..
A CE.
...
What the hell?
I had no idea what it is. nobody was around. and here was this GIANT AS HELL Thing coming straight at the planet I was orbiting.
Dear god, the speed of that thing.
I remember an explosion, the planet being reduced to nothing and my dinky little engineering ship down to 40% hull and no armor.
To this day, I am scared to all hell of those things.

Yeah they were pretty cool. You'd have entities flying around messing up your planets, and gaifens in the nebula and gas clouds. You also had AI transports that did the trading between starports unlike now where it's automatic every few minutes or so.
It was fun back then.

you also had fleets of AI transports being used as decoys or fire support. that was fun.

I parked a Suppy at a Planet in Nicea (.482) and had 5 or 6 Crystallines crash the planet right on top of me over a period of about 15 between minutes each....they never scratched me or the planet, Gaifen Herds killed me many times at Mars in early (1st 3 weeks) of .482, and a Energy nearly killed me about the same time.

In the Fleet Admiral server(481 I think) they were always flying in and blowing up every planet I built.. made me quit building back then and focus on combat haha.
