TITLE 2007 Fresh MV Event

WHEN 01/02/07 20:00:00
+1.8 Days

AUTHOR Shigernafy

DETAILS On the evening of Tuesday, January 2nd (for US time zones), the Metaverse will be reset. We're aiming for approximately 8pm CST (3am GMT), though this may vary. At this time, the MV will temporarily be cleared of players, wiped clean, and restarted, in an effort to remove some of the lag seen in the last couple weeks.
During this time, all players will need to stay out of the MV until directed by staff that it is time to rejoin. The reset process shouldn't take more than an hour.

It's just a reset. Everything set to neutral, planets wiped clean (garages too probably), just the normal.

Too bad they cant take a few systems with it.

It's not gonna fix the lag.

Actualy, it will abit of it.

It will whipe the MV of the current running scripts (Remember those Reindeer Farms and Snowment, along with the Pirates/Mir/Gaifen?) which will clear up abit of that lag. It will also get rid of every building/infantry/ship that it's had to keep track of over the past few weeks. It wont fix all lag, but it will relieve abit of it.

Being realistic doesnt help much if you do not know the subject.

Seriously...a smaller meta would do nothing but good. If WH's are such a problem remove them or shorten their range, preffering the second option. The population really can't support the current meta in my opinion. There is too much planets to grab. If it was made smaller the little bit of players would be compacted increasing actualy combat ten-fold as it would be much easier to defend planet from bombing and so on because it doesn't take so long to get to a system. It would also reduce lag since it doesn't have to keep track of all the systems that were removed, right?

I just wish it was made smaller...

Hmm well WE can only hope that the reset will get rid of a bit of the lag, however from experience my guess is there will be a very small if any improvement.

I think i is a good idea anyway to reset the MV cause it just is, also maybe they should get rid of say 4 systems so that there isnt as big a space and that will help towards getting rid of some of the lag also.

In case you hadn't noticed by now, we did take a few systems with it. And while this may sadden some of you who enjoy the spice of variety, I also removed all the asteroids; I found that after a while of running, they would be floating in far-off places, and a large pile would somehow form in the exact center of the MV, stuck between four zones. I have no idea whether this actually was a problem, but it struck me as odd and potentially problematic, so I just went ahead and removed them all.

Plus the few systems... and the wipe of all the objects in the MV - well, hopefully the smaller size and lighter load will help at least a little for at least a little while.

Even if it just gets us back to pre-Christmas lag, I'll be happy. The server has been poor and the zones have been finnicky ever since we put those Snowmen (etc) in the server.

And hey, any improvement helps.

Plus its a ton of free prestige.. there are at least a few hundred planets, all needing building... and likely building again, given many players' insatiable appetite for mirving.
