They say the first step in getting better is admitting you have a problem.

I am an emotaholic.

I first noticed the problem when scouring my emote list for a biting witticism to a hapless player's delayed realization:

Quote:
20:42:00 RevenG {Absolut}: "I think I just got what the Save Uranus tag meant The one that josef and others had 3 months ago"

Naturally, the fitting (even if somewhat understated) reply to this would be:

Quote:
* Josef hands RevenG {Absolut} the latest copy of `Yesterdays news!`

As I gazed down the list for emote titles beginning in Y, much to my dismay my canned response had gone missing! In its place sat this:

What strange character-set corruption could have caused such a quaint graphic anomaly?

I fired off a quick ultimatum to @107 demanding a patch for GCQL to restore my emotes to their previous status, but as I hovered my mouse over the curious inverted pyramid, I realized its true purpose. My list of emotes had grown too large and needed to scroll down to display them all.

Alarmed and somewhat ashamed, I hastily tried to hide my problem by bumping up my resolution to 1024x768. This worked for a while but, as all habits usually do, the list eventually outgrew my available choices. 1152x864, 1280x960, even 1600x1200!

This series of stopgap measures wasn't cutting it. I considered hiring a bankruptcy consultant to analyze which emotes I was getting the most out of and which I could afford to prune, but in the end I couldn't part with any. Each emote captured just the right ingredient I needed to maintain my buoyant, nonchalant reputation that I had strived so hard to build.

I eventually succumbed and began using the scrolling features that were so obviously carry-overs from the failed attempt to port the lobby code to Palm Pilots.

This suited me for a while, but I'm beginning to develop a certain lethargic dependency on those emotes whose starting letters come at the beginning of the alphabet. And when I do muster up the stamina to scroll down to the W's to perform a simple wave, more often than not the intended recipient has already joined a game or logged off in frustration of a fruitless attempt to curry favor from their favourite room member.

As it stands, my current emote count is 111. I've heard rumors there's a hardcoded limit of 128. The list below is what I have to navigate when deciding how best to respond to that fawning advance or that lively debate on the definition of rational versus repeating numbers without going to the effort of actually thinking of something to say. As you can see, I tend to focus on themes for my replies (mockery, flattery, incontinence, GTN...)

I need your help. Should I diligently pare my list of the stale ones, one at a time, until its a reasonable size? Should I go cold turkey and resign myself to the default emotes only? Or should I test the limits of 7-bit compatible programming and see what happens when you try to add that 129th emote?

What should I do?

129!

129!

129!

Also, you can just right click and then press "Y" to scroll down quickly... But you knew that already, didn't you?

p.s. You don't have a nod for me? Just what was that lonely night, spent all alone in my server? A FLING?!

Josef, I have found a quick work around to this problem.

add _ to any emotes you think you use more often.

it places it on top of the list.

on a more personell note:

wtf, how do you have so many damn emotes? I thought I was the emote king!!!1one. I demand you post all your emotes!

Heck.. you might have to make a second install for one of your other accounts (I recommend your Demorian account, personally) just to hold your overflow of emotes.

Or just have Chromix upgrade us to full 32bit GCQL (damn the backwards compatability with ENIAC) and you could then store a full 4,294,967,295 emotes - that might take you a few weeks to fill!
