Boring idea, I still want to go to a hostile backwater system and cause some trouble there (drawing attention and hostile ships there)

It fixes alot of problems, prevents mirv whoreing, enforces strategy and provides alot of combat as well as action...
Not only this of course, but it also really puts in a surefire 'conquering' aspect of DS that really strikes hard to home..
The only people that could have qualms about it are people who enjoy that they can go anywhere at anytime and level everything and cap everything for easy prestige...
2 points to Doran...

i like the idea in concept, but the first part about the giving certain planets to certain fleets when the system becomes contested is flawd. with the same planets owned by the same people everytime the system comes into contest, the battles would become repetative and boring. it would make some systems way overplayed (the middle ones the battle will mostly stay around) and other systems would never be seen (homesystems and off route systems like wolf and struve). also, this would toss noobs right into the thick of things where they would be too easily preyed on by bigger ships and just in the way of the rest of their faction as they try to figure out what they are doing. perhaps we shouldnt isolate the combat completely, but perhaps just the ability to bomb. that would force a logical progression of territory and prevent mirv whoring, while leaving everyone still relatively free to roam the MV, which is one of my favorite features of this game. the battles would naturally still concentrate in the contested systems as the defending party would attack the bombers and the bombers would get help from combat ships, but still we would be free to have random, unpredictable battles elsewhere. i like this alteration of the original plan much better. go with this instead and I am all for it.

Like the idea. Reminds me of 1.480. Does help to create "funnel" effect. Disappointing note is, as what Dom said, you can't necessarily make an appearance over in Sol until you pave a path through all of the systems there - would be nice to at least have the option to dance around planets in an attempt to gather attention while not really doing anything.
*shrugs*
Still like it.
Support it.
Don't see how it supports any latency issues, though... just may make some of the systems not as... meaningful. Meaning that they could be clipped.
Perhaps a return to the MV of 1.480? Smaller map. The funnel was useful.
