I would like to say that so far, this game has 2 points I must point out. One it's a great game graphically and playably. Second, IT COMPLETELY SUCKS for new players trying to learn when you have MAXED players camping the newbie server and gang banging every new player trying to learn anything. As soon as you start ANYTHING with a planet, mining, invasion, etc, 5-7 ships show up and within seconds you're dogmeat, no chance for getting XP. This is your idea fun? It's my idea of stress and I play these game to get RID of stress not add more on. I would love to consider this game relaxing but sometimes I don't want to PVP, sometimes I just like to relax and mine. CAN'T do that, some grinning, antagonizing, jerk just can't wait to get his dreadnaught on top of a noob ship in the metaverse, and if you go to the noobie server to try and relax, oh no, forget that, 5-7 gang up on you and make sure they ruin any semblance of a nice time. It wouldn't be so bad if one could actually fight back, but that's simply not an option, the ships they use are impervious to newbie weapons and as such makes the game completely SUCK. I WAS seriously considering putting you on my Credit Card for autorenewal, but in light of the way some ridiculed and antagonized about being ALL THAT, when it's 5+ against one noob that doesn't even know how to play, I am thinking maybe it's a waste of my money. FYI, I usually take out 3 accounts when I join a game, it's me, my brother and my nephew, not to mention other people that follow me from game to game. I just think you should put a NON-PVP server on for new players to learn their ships. Consider that while I reconsider whether to pay for this game or not. Also, it's hard to keep a civil attitude when others are deliberately antagonizing you to quit.

totally AGREED
I think that it should be pointed out atleast 3 times in the tutorial that you MUST upgrade, and let everyone start with 1 million credits.

Sorry, but Darkspace was ment for Player Versus Player. If you do not have anything above a Picket/Escort dessie, you shouldnt be in the Mv. For the newbie, how about mining a neutral planet? It's impossible to detect an enemy ship there. Basicaly, if you mine an enemy planet, your going to get jumped..try mining a friendly planet..

OK, I can see now that anything I post is going to be met with the idiot's critique. WHAT NEUTRAL PLANET????????? They're ALLLL enemy planets on the newbie server because the GANG that runs that server doesn't give new players a snowball's chance.

The gang that runs the newbie server? hah. I barely see 3-4 on there for most of the day. Also, ever thought of..getting a combat ship? Asking for allied help can work..Basicaly, it's not their fault that they work together..They dont try to push you away, they try and play the game as a team

They are using teamwork against you? Shock horror! What next?!
Look, it's part of the learning process. You don't ever get to learn to build without someone teaching you how hard it is to build under fire. The 'stress' you complain of, it disapates quickly once you have called for backup, then got def up on you planet. It's part of the process! newbie;-)
On the other hand, if there are high ranking players on the newb servers just there to grief, please /report them, so the mods can point and laugh at them. These players don't get a thing from it (prestige or kill count wise), so they are truely sad and deserving of ridicule.

Oh yeah..you want a story of hell, on building under fire? Try this..
Okay, K'luth had invaded Barnards Star..We still had maurbon, and needed to build it some..Who'd they call in? Why crim, because he was already building..I agree to go help, and rush around..2k away from Maurbon. Six Mandibles, three Broods..Along with the Heavily Defense Laden Maurbon cluster...I Jump in, quickly going to f3, adding on the needed things..By then, enemy all around, and thus, my allies jump in, and help. I have enough time to finish building, and we kept maurbon.
Basicaly, use teamwork to get things done, dont try and fight without it..

Well, something I see here, is that there are other sides to play, you are not merely restricted to any side.
Secondly, in newbie, the easiest way to get killed is by standing still, obviously the best way to not get killed is by running away. Remember that in all games, everyone once knew what its like to start off small, and we had to deal with conditions then which were far worse than they are now.
However aside from that fact, remember that Darkspace is a purely a PvP game, and rightly so, as its simply not fun if you spend the entire time grinding off of AI ships.
In addition, as said earlier, any veteren players you see griefing newbie ships playing in the newbie server should be immediately reported, as this is unaccetable. However in the Metaverse, along with any other server, teamwork is neccessary in order to stay alive and to progress, generally solo ships are simply asking to be killed, newbie or not.
Learn to work well with your team, or indeed if you don't have one, learn to evade such gang bang attacks, as yes they are frustrating, they can indeed be avoided.

well let me give you noobs a few hints
1. see something red and big on the nav moving in your direction RUN LIKE HELL
2. never stand still.
3. in battel, fly outside the battel zone watch what happens before picking a target you can take some pot shots at.
4. never attack anything while your jumpdrive charges, you want to exit fast, if your target is to big a mouth full or turns his complete attention at your ship.
you cant stop the newbie smashers , but can take steps to not run into harms way to easy.
in mine time i have writen loads of "new player guides" to DS
seam resently there have been a lack of those, so i promise i will write a survival guide when we get a version of DS where i can fly kluth again.

first off... dont mine... it is bugged, takes forever, and is realy dangerous do to mineing ships being weak...
there are pleanty of vets that well give you money (come to MV, i play K'luth... you need money, ill give.... while im not loaded, i do have enough that i can kick you enough to mod...
upgrade aways... the enginear is a great combat ship in newbie server as long as it is upgraded (never try it in the MV)... build a few depos asap on the planet you are building
never stay in the f3 screen... always face away from the planet... if to much jumps in you are all ready to jump out...
2 ways to jump... best way is to hit the F2 screen and pick a spot in line with your ship and a randome distance way (over 10,000gu)... hold ctrl and left click the spot... hit the space bar to center the F2 screen there... go back to buildng... when the big bad jumps in hit f2 click on you spot (got to be quick), hit F2 again and hit "J"... away you go... safe (be ready to jump again though)
the good ol E-Jump... hit Shift + J and you jump... the problem with that is it is only a 10sec jump and players can track you knowing about how far that will take you... aways aways be ready to jump
the MV is your friend... join UGTO, get a assult frig, upgrade to all cannon/torps find a big friend and use him as a shield and take shots at the emy takeing care not to hit your shield
get a supply ship asap... no better pres gain for a new player than a ugto supply... luth ships fix them selfs and you have to uncloak to repare a cloaked ship, giveing away the posion of you and your charge. icc have shields makes gain pres by supply for thouse factions a bit harder
you are right... this is not a newbie friendly game... it is realy hard to start out... once you have a destroyer it is all gold...
btw there realy are not any greavers... the player base is small... every one knows every one... that tends to keep evey one in line...

Sattracer:
I feel your pain. Particularly so because my own "growing up" in Darkspace was a rough and tumble experience indeed. Why? Because I had chosen to grow up in Darkspace in the K'luth faction, which, if you ask anyone, is *inordinately* challenging.
I cannot agree with the people who actively taunt you to make your learning curve even steeper and less enjoyable.
All I can offer is my help. If you so wish, send me a private message, and I can offer my assistance and answer any questions you may have.
This game needs new blood. Not all veterans are selfish or mean. In fact, most are generally very helpful.
Cheers, and good luck.

"Vet's" who camp the newbie server will never evolve to good players if they don't go against harder aponents, anyone who is a vet here can tell you you dont get good by owning noobs (I wanted to put someones name here (I think you can all guess who it is anyway) but I wont).
But, you are bringing up a very, very strange point...
DarkSpace is a SOULY PvP game. Well, not souly, but 99%. Anything you do is for the gain of combat in the server, and it encourages it. DarkSpace is amazing and well known for its good PVP system, it's hard to balance, but when we do find that g-spot for DarkSpace, the game will be amazingly sweet and fun.
It's the only game I still play after years (and I've been playing CS and all sorts for 7 years ~).
If you really have a problem with vets in the newbie server, contact a moderator or /report it, they shouldn't be in there, and they know they shouldn't, so tell someone and someone WILL do something about it.
On a lighter note, if combat isn't your thing, head straight to the MV. There's more systems to hide in away from the enemy. If PVP isn't your thing, and you just want to build or mine, then the MV is better, because of its size. If you want to supply, then I'd suggest sticking to newbie a little bit more, or ask me or a fellow vet to teach you a few ropes, I'll gladly let you follow me around or a fellow pilot and take care of you whilst teaching you, and I know a vast majority of DarkSpace pilots will do the same.
The communities amazing, just give it a chance and get in with the right people.
