Is it considered illegal to carry a charged jump drive, which you then swap with a DAMAGED, but CHARGED, jump drive to get out of sticky situations?
Just occurred to me as an idea, so I wanted to ask.

as long as the JD that is damaged is charged then there is no problem.
Rules state it is only illegal to swap an UNCHARGED with a CHARGED device

I was not sure, because replacing a damaged, charged JD with an undamaged, charged JD could be construed as bypassing JD damage, just as bypassing armour damage with a swap of armour would be illegal. Thanks for the clarification.

This was a bug ages ago, or at least the game has been coded to avoid the bug for as long as I know. I'd really like to know why it's now been allowed back into the game and labelled an exploit.
Just Fix it Damnit!

the difference is that this is device damage and not critical to the survival of the ship in prolonged combat, so if your JD is busted you can swap it out and get away unless the enemy has a dictor nearby, in which case it doesnt matter, if you swap armor you increase the armor value of your ship and that is essentially the same as having double the armor you would usually have (its not unknown to have backup systems on warships, but extra armor plates for when the current is pierced is like what? )

Well hold on now... if I recall correctly a jumpdrive will stop working when it reaches like 10 or 20%... I think the bottom line of the issue is why do you have 2 jumpdrives installed (save for WH/HMA swapping)?
