Just had myself one good idea for the CL weapons of the ICC and UGTO.

Im pretty sure all you die hard fans of Darkspace out there are getting a little bit bored with the normal look of the CL2000 through CL300...

Lets face it, the things are getting a bit old when you look at some of the other games out there with their fancy colors and effects. So i had a slight idea.

Color Variation:

This would show the strength of the beam, plus it would show what class it was. For example

CL2000= Silver
CL1000= Blue
CL550= Orange
CL500= Orange-Red
CL300= Dull Red

The brightness kinda shows the damage that the thing would do, since we all should know, sometimes the higher damaging beam weapons have one helluva brighter color than the rest. Thats just an idea with that.

Another idea is for a somewhat complex but simple beam effect.

For example, the beam source(ball of energy) charges up in say...a couple of milliseconds to give a sort of feel....But when the beam is done, have the lance of energy itself disappear, then the ball disappear. It might be a little hard, and require a bit of tweaking and such, but it would make the effects for the Chemical Lasers a bit more interesting...And this little idea of the way it appears and disappears could be used for the Flux Cannon and Disruptor, or any type of Beam Based weapon when the patch comes out...

Just my $0.02

Not a bad idea. It is a real good way to show what kind of beams are on the ship's hull..heh. Man, his should be implemented as this is a good idea. Just my opininion.

extract that into the DS directory.

You will see some of Gideon's work with the new effects.

In your config there are two lines "Doupdate=1" change them to 0 and save your config, set it to read only (so the server doesnt download the old graphics files).

These are only a sneak peak and are old though, Faustus, I think, is uploading a update into beta soon so there might be more there, dont know.

dont forget pulse beams

also i think it'd make a bit more sence to have have the lasers color from 300/red across the spectrum to 2000/blue, tho i sorta blanked that part of high school chem class

anyways this has been tossed around a few other times. if you've got gid's little fx package the cl's are now more vibrant red/white

http://www.jackwallace.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/fx.zip

forgot it was a .zip file

It seems I need to make this clearer.

Step one
Extract ALL .wob files into the ....darkspacedata directory

Step two
Edit the config.ini and change the DoUpdate="1" lines to 0 (there are two of these lines, one under client and one under gcql).

Step three
SET YOUR CONFIG TO READ ONLY, if you do not do this, the next time you start darkspace, it will download the old graphics and write over them.

Your done, go have fun with the beta graphics.

lol had problems understanding this so heres the example

[GCQL]
DoUpdate=0
[Client]
doUpdate=0

Make sure BOTH of those are set to 0. Save, and set config to read only by right clicking on it, properties tick read only..

NOTE You cannot edit any setings in the setup or add emotes when this is enabled on your config. To undo it, simple untick the box and hit ok.

Ignore the instructions.exe, its old, Gideon put them in before we realise they worked in release.

If anyone has any problems with this feel free to pm me ^^
