Hi.
I've been playing for a few days, and I had some random ideas.
1.) an onscreen I icon, falshing red, or something when you are in the presence of a jump interdictor device, and therefore can't jump.
2.) new ship class of carrier escort. This would be something on a cruiser hull, loaded with point defense. It would be the kind of thing you take next to a vulnerable carrier with lots of point defense to help from getting overwhelmed.
3.) Mission-type system, where you can do missions for a faction. I don't see this as being likely as it would be a major rewrite of a lot of things. I see it basically as Take 120 urdanium to random faction station type things.
I like this idea, because while DS is very fun, I think adding to the playstyles you can ahve that aren't solely focused on combat might add to the ability to reach out to new players who aren't completely interested in going after PVP with other players.
4.) NPC controlled vessels. I could see a lot of random NPC vessels doing trade-runs, and just generally patrolling their faction space. Obviously they would be using default loadouts, but it would raise the tension level when you go to random sector, and there's a random few vessels patrolling. You could probably cap this, as saying no vessel larger than a cruiser would be controlled by an NPC.
(4 and 5 are related)
5.) I really like the idea of a fourth NPC controlled faction. Something to take the pressure off the constant war between kluthy vs everyone. This sounds also very hard to implement. Ideally, give them a new jumpgate to their home system, and make them more along hte lines of raiders. While I'm sure that any planet they cap will be taken back very soon, if they have their own permanent jumpgate they can raid every few hours to keep things interesting. We already ahve the 'bug' aspect covered, by the kluth, so just pick a random generic race stereotype. I'm fond of silicoid life forms, that don't use communications and just blow up everything because they thin that carbon based life is inferior.

Plus if your willing to buy an amazing server so that we have lots of CPU time to control the 4th NPC faction, then do so!

jump drive icon is greyed out, along with a message stating that your jump drive has been disabled by a dictor. i would agree that it could be a bit more visible

had both of those in previous versions, which have been taken out for various reasons, i do miss those defence missions (big cash money). only npc were gaifen/ce/ee's and the trannys that ran resorces from planet to planet, people tended to farm them tho... i recall a planet in... cyg i think, probably af or niax with like 30-40+ trannies around it

I saw the donation screen, it looked pretty shabby. We could get a reasonably priced dell 2 way Xeon box for under 2k though. I'd donate more if there was a specific server fund.

This is why I can't find it!

Suck. I wish I was around then. I like more stuff to do than just blow up random fried aliens.

Dare to dream! I'd love a fourth one. But if the server is the problem, seems time to donate mad money, or have a t-shirt contest and donate the profits.

What are the specs on the mv servers in uses right now?
I know some server companies like sys techs are normally willing to work out a deal for free or very cheap servers for new game mods and stuff.
Just something to think about.

O.o?™
Donate several grand to Palestar? are you insane?
Better idea, why don't you reroute you direct deposit from your payroll right into Palestars business account?
I dunno, maybe I'm selfish, but the only thing I donate money to is Jerry's Kid's and other places that help those in worse situations than myself and keep them fed and healthy...
Call me ambitious, but the only way I'd shell out money to better the servers etc is if my name was printed on the Palestar Admin list and I get a percentage of the company.
Good idea though, big business and even little businesses love a sucker

A) Already discussed, Jump icon will be greyed out and message in the Comm area will display when you enter and leave a dictor field. Additional changes call for Dictors to require charge up times, so their influence sphere will start small and grow.

A) Already proposed by myself and others no less than three times and vetod by the other dev staff. Instead of one ship defending the carrier, holding back 2 or 3 destroyers to do the job would force more planning and teamwork

A) A basic mission system has been encoded to the game, but deactivated because of potential to exploit. Plans call for a newer mission system at a later point.

A) There are already other aspects to the game, Repair ships can jump into battle with the fleet or hold back at a hidden location to support the combat ships pulling from battle. Transports can move resources and troops to different planets in support of invasions and aiding Engineers get planets built up. Future updates to the Economy and Political system will allow for more dynamic experiances of play

AI Fleets were removed from the game because of people exploiting them for prestige. When we removed the prestige rewards for them, people were exploiting them to draw Def Base fire, etc... So they were removed from the game. Improvements to the AI code allowed for more agressive battles, but also demanded to much processor power when creating full fleet on fleet battles. So we stopped enabling them.

A) Actually we had envisioned adding new races and factions at later points in the game development. But we have placed those plans on hold to focus on balancing the game with the races already in play before adding more and to rework the updated server back end to provide the most enjoyable game play with minimal lag for the most players possible.

Since we are talking about Ideas and Upgrades I have a couple question and a Idea
First off..
I applaude those that want to help out Palestar make a better product...
Q... #1 ... In previous versions I understand the Support Stations where much more.. well... Survivable... much more stronger... To me, personnally, anyone that has put forth the effort to attain the rank of Fleet Admiral should be given a ship worthy of the Title... If i am not mistaken there are actually very few FA's that would be caught dead in one, and thats because they know there is a good chance of them dieing in one. I know any Station is going to be a high priority target but man... it is a sad day when one of the most versital (Sp. ) platforms in the game is not used becuase it is under powered and under gunned and I mean that across all three factions.
Q... #2 ... In reguards to the above statement will there ever be a special ship for Grand Admirals? I mean right now what is the benefit of being a GA besides the title? I remember way back when there was a post saying that they were considering letting GA's go pirate/rogue if they wanted to and, based on some badges for doing various acts, could get an asteroid base that would get bigger or better based on the badges they got... Is there anything like that going on? A new ship for the GA's?
IDEA: Why not make a Combat Station for the GA's... that way you could leave the current Support Station as is, so it is like a lead up to the larger more powerful station.
I plan on, one day when I come home from the Persian Gulf Theater of Operations, to become a Grand Admiral.... I would like to have somehting to look forward to... I look forward to piloting my first Support Station... but what about after that?
Always trying to do my part to help,
Rocko
