I really think more attention should be payed to the current versions of the game than waiting til next patch to fix things that should really have been fixed a long time ago.
There is a bug with bombing - the damage spreads over the whole planet rather than the bomb's blast radius. This is supposedly fixed in the next patch.
Now think about this for a second. Bombs aren't supposed to be able to blast the entire planet. The very act of bombing in this version of the game is exploiting a bug, and thus is technically against the RoC. Sounds crazy I know.
This should have been fixed a long time ago.
That bug alone is what has been causing all these problems. Sure, even with that fixed bombers would still be pretty devestating (think 1482) but not nearly as bad as they are now.
Also, waiting for the next patched to be fixed are the problems of charged component swapping (which is illegal but still possible), component cloning, overpowered beacons, and ECCM pinging. All these should really have been addressed quickly before any work on the next version began, IMO.
I don't care if the next version is delayed a month or more - if the current version is made more playable it's always a step forward.
As for stat adjustments, I really don't think they're going to happen, as much as some people deserve it. I don't think there is record of people's profiles in the database before this version came out, but if there is, those individuals who have made all their rank bombing could certainly use a major setback, I think.

The three main contenders for unfair ships are the Picket and Escort Dessie and the Missile Dread. Appart from that, most ships are pretty fair (although the missile cruiser (icc) is a little ouch too....12 torps..).
Appart from that, what Bob said...

Meh...you are an ignorant fool who quotes insignificant things and miss the rest of the post...
who wouldnt be selfish if they stand to loose a lot of pres (unlike you)
yay the flame war has started

Oh very productive that is, a flame war.
I really didn't think the prestige mattered to you Nim, you certainly earned the points but I didn't reallly believe that anything after GA really mattered to ya.
Though, if it were me, I wouldent care that much, buts thats me, and Id rather see those who abused get a major set back and pay minorly also, than nothing at all..
BUt then you are selfish therefore, you don't care about anyone else right?
Aside from that, Bob hit the head on the nail too, brownie points to you.
I think the only reason its not classified as an exploit because its part of the game. (psh)
Anyways Nim, shouldent you be away from teh internet?

Now this is a good idea. Stop trying to add features when existing features are not properly implemented.
Over extending is one of the main reasons empires fall apart. I believe the same applies to game development.

Why don't you guys just listen to Valerius? I would post but it would just be repeating what Valerius said. You know what they say, great minds think alike.

i'm not sure if this has been officially anounced as an exploit, but if it has then then those who continue to exploit it should be punished, however, if its not then i dont see any reason why they should be penalized for the press they have gained for bombing, if it was a mistake by the devs then its exactly that, a mistake and it should be announced as such, Mirv bombing shouldnt be penalized IMO as much as you would like it to be, if everyone was detered from Mirv bombing becuase Nuetron bombing gains pretty much the same pres then what are people gonna do for building pres with intact planets being captured all the time, personally about 45% of my pres is gained from BUILDING!!, why? becuase i like it, i gain about 150-200 pres per planet depending on its base habitat, i would hate to see intact planets captured all the time with no Mirving, i am NOT however saying that Mirv bombing shouldnt be fixed, 1 destroyer or cruiser should not be able to destroy a planet in one run, it should take at least 3 ships or more working together, either make defences better at defending from bombs or reduce the amount of damage the bombs do, not the pres.
my 2 cents.

For such a new player, and only your third post, you have much understanding of how the game is meant to be played. I am pleasently surprised to see more and more of players like yourself apearing in the game now. I would love to see planet damage rolled back. It would mean some people losing their badges, and ranks if they abused it lots. I'm seeing more and more new players thinking they are the bee's knee's because they have a higher bombing stat than 99% of the playerbase. After this patch, if the prestige isnt rolled back. Planets Damaged will no longer be a determination of skill. It was already sort of getting towards that way last patch, but its just worse this time. I'm seeing lots and lots of noob AD's, FA's and almost GA's flying around with just 90% of their profile on bombing.
Edventualy, DS is going to be split into 3 groups.
Those who want to be vets
Those who are vets
And those who think they are vets because they have a high planets damaged stat.

Have never launched a neutron or mirv bomb and only bio'd about 6-8 planets.
Immediately saw the exploit / bug for what it was and chose not to use it.
Do not believe I should still receive a penalty in any form.

you missed : nerfing bombs in general to mere uselessness
as it is now, u dont even need a cloud to kill planets anymore, all u need is ECM.

No...
Add a small Ships Damaged multiplier to armour. That should help.

A very good day to all players here, I hope you're all having a good time. ^^
Reading these little debates here has indeed made me want to post so badly. ^^
A little suggestion to solve this little 'exploit' could be to enable 'cross faction building' again, or at least, just the shields.
I guess why this exploit wasn't that much widely abused before could be that the planets had indeed better defences, and also each planet had shields too, which pretty much discouraged people from using MIRVS, so people were always using BioBombs (No Neutrons then).
Of course, one may complain about the 'abuse of faction technology', since if you are able to utilize each other's build's, you're able to build factories.
I would say, this is where the next patch comes in, where upgrading is done via planets instead of factories, and also where I would assume there would not be any need for technology stealing.
What also could be done on top of this would be to take Planet Sensor Bases more effective, which would pretty much eliminate 1 man planet clears.
I am sure, with the current defense base settings, a K'luth + ICC + Shield defence planet, plus perhaps with it being located in a cluster such as Maurbon, or even Ross 7 in Ross 348, would definitely be a force to be reckoned with.
Well, just my two cent's worth. ^^
Cheers!

any defenses inside maurbon cluster would be a force to be reckoned with.... its almost impossible to take out
