You're missing how the weapon levels were designed. Level 8 are anti-dread, level 0 anti scout/frig.
But that's not really how it works... It's lvl8 anti-dread, lvl 4 anti-small-ship, level 0 useless because of terrible, terrible damage (but that's another topic).
It's not based on the 'size' of the weapon, it's based on intended target. Take away high level weapons, and you take away cruiser/dessy/frig anti-dread weapons. Have you considered that a dessy with all lvl8 cannons is useless versus other dessies (not to mention vulnerable to fighters)? There's always a tradeoff. I think the idea is you mod your ship for a particular type of target, you sacrifice in becoming vulnerable or at least less useful versus others. That's a good idea.

Lone, I think the levels are a lot more messed up than you think they are. Cause Dreads are forced to whore lvl 8 weaponry if they hope to damage a destroyer. Lvl 4 weapons are as pointless as they come.

Good idea for a destroyer. Piss-poor idea for a Dreadnought. I am sorry, I just dont buy into the whole paper rock scizzors idea you keep trying to subscribe me to.

Anything below obscene swarms of fighters arent a threat to me, their missiles are easily dodgeable. Much like a CD/MD's dreads missiles are easily dodgable.
As for another dessy? The cannons would be quite effective against other dessies, not sure on the torpedoes.

a mix of lvl4 and lvl 8 does well... at lest better than the AD with all beams i saw fighting a destroyer... but not as well as exspeted...
ships in generial are too strong... fights take way too long.... falling asleep mashing the space bar....
