Yah. but a little impreciseness built into the wormhole varying with distance would be dandy.

Anyways, just like to make sure everyone knows; ctrl targeting only seems to work within your current zone- you must target a planet in order to create a none-homesystem wormhole.

If anyone remembers the Babylon 5 episode, "The Long, Twilight Struggle", when the Narn fleet (or what was left of it ) tried running away, the Shadows fired some weird energy pulse that disrupted their jump points so that they became unstable and collapsed on the Narn ships.

We could do something similar to keep people from overuseing the worm holes, some kind of torpedoe that would make the wormhole exit unstable so that it would collapse and possible destroy whatever's coming from the other side. Of course this weapon would be über-expensive and some limit to keep people from constantly killing Wormholes, but it would mean there would be risk in taking the fast, easy way to get to a system.

Weeee Loveeee Fausyyyy!

Question though: Will other ships be able to use it as well?
Like, the Wormhole gets placed and then fades away after a few minutes but all ships could still use the wormhole while its fading?

oh and you wont be able to shoot trough the wormhole, its prolly gonna work like the current ds wormhole. This would make it a jumpgate with a diffrent animation

Its basically a temporary jumpgate. You target an end point, hit J, and a wormhole opens up for about 2 minutes. While its there, its functions exactly like a jumpgate - anyone can go through it, in either direction. No limitations.

Then, it closes, and you get to wait 3 more minutes to fire up a new one.

UPDATE:

If you select a planet/star and use the device, it no longer tries to create the destination outside the radius of the object you have selected. Additionally, a random variation in the destination position has been added (thus no point in trying to keep you outside of the interior of a planet or star). This random variation is 500gu for the "Worm Hole Device I", and 1000gu for the "Worm Hole Device II".

This should help prevent players from using this device to close-in jump to a planet and off-load 20 infantry onto the planet.

You MUST be very careful about what destination you select now, otherwise your worm hole may lead into the interior of a planet.

Few Bugs:

- Target someone and Create a wormhole. The wormhole will form on this person and he will be warped between holes like 40 times.
While this isnt really a problem, you can simply start moving and youll move out of the wormhole, Its still a bit silly.

The wormhole should form 250 gu from your target.

- Worm Holes can be created inside Planets/Stars. Not very nice if people do that and you fly trough

- Beams do hit Wormholes but Projectiles dont. Perhaps wormholes should be destroyable?

the reason is that some projectiles can go through where as beams cant

Less of a problem now with the random exit added.

And I like that, gives you an actual reason to keep the "lesser" device.

Also, will there be a visual warning (maybe in really really REALLY big red letters ) about how a wormhole has been detected near this planet?

And, just as an aside, did you give the Jump Cruiser the device just because of its name?

The random thing is pretty cool but i dont think wormholes should be able to form inside planets or Stars, mainly because it would be silly to form it inside a planet.
Its a big ball of dirt, no room for wormholes.

Also the jump cruiser is cool, 2 Jump cruisers could really allow a few ICC ships to use hit and run tactics.
Of course, somehow this would seem more something that Kluth would need.

Heck, they travelled a long ass way here, somehow youd think they would have far more experience with Wormholes.

Perhaps Kluth should have a cruiser Class that comes equiped with 2 Wormhole drives?
Or that has a shorter recharge time.
This would allow the cruiser to get the Kluth fleet somewhere, slaughter a bit and run like hell.

The Parasite would be nice for that, i dont really remember what its weapons layout is but the name would kinda suit it

Anyway, The patch will make Kluth weaker in prolonged combat so i dont think this would be to unblancing.

this reminds me about a series of books i read by david weber. the four books in the series are crusade, in death ground, Shiva Option and insurrection. the only way to get to one system to another are these warp points in the systems.the only safe way to transverse these warp points one at a time because if more than one ship went through at a time you risked warping into the same area of space and due to the rules of the universe two things cant suddenly appear inside each other and the result was the ships would blow up. it wasnt necessarily going to happen every time but the more ships you put through at once the higher the chance. in war the defender always had the advantage in a warp point assault because he could pound your fleets ships one at a time because you dont want to lose ships by warping them all at once. eventually that was balanced silghty when the humans invented sbmhawks pods. these pods would be sent through warp holes in large numbers but it really didnt matter because they were mere computer controlled pods and not ships with personnel on them. after the pods transitited and some of them blew up because they warped in the same space and the defenders shot some up the pods systems would stabilize, lock on to the defenders and fire 10 missles each destroying themselves but a volley of missles like that would hurt anyone. something like the sbmhawk pod would add an awesome new feature into warphole and jump gate fighting.

So basically, a weapon you can fire into a worm hole, it comes out on the other side and launches missiles on any available targets?
